Finding a Quality T1 Service Provider

Looking for a T1 service provider is about as fun as looking for a used car. There are so many carriers and so many sales pitches you have to sit through just to get a piece of information. Tired of the used car salesman approach? An independent agent can help reduce the number ofconversations you have with carriers by asking you about your specific needs and searching through multiple providers to get the service that is right for you. The agent helps steer clear of the bias you will receive when speaking with one vendor as the agent will be paid no matter which service you choose. If you happen to be searching for a dedicated voice T1, the agent will give you quotes for dedicated voice T1's for multiple service providers.

While an agent can get you the information you're looking for without the pushy approach of a single carrier there is typically a delay between the time you have your conversation and the time you get your information. Agents and brokers can sometimes take several days to search the providers, send e-mails and get responses to your specific needs. The advantage, however, is that you don't have to do the searching you can go about you business and have someone else do this free of charge.

Want a step up from the average agent? An agent who carries no bias for one particular carrier AND gives immediate feedback! While this was not possible a few months ago, we have found a service that can offer real time information on many T1 service providers. A real time quote gives you information NOW. There is no waiting to find pricing. Simply enter your information and compare pricing immediately. Real time pricing will do for telecommunications shopping what Expedia and Travelocity did for travel. So why wait? If you're searching for a T1 line make sure you use a broker that can help you with your search in real time.

Top Reasons to Use and Trust VARSearch™

If there is one thing the internet is good for, it's networking - finding the people who have the skills and expertise that can give you the help you need. Aside from rocket science, there really isn't anything more technical on this planet than communications, specifically computer networks, telephone systems, and voice over internet phone systems. Not only do most manufacturers of this equipment not have direct sales outlets, they do not even pick up the phone if you haven't be certified and trained in their product set. That is where the VAR (Value Added Reseller) Network comes in - to act as your conduit to these telephone and network equipment companies (such as Cisco, Avaya, Lucent, Mitel, Nortel, PolyCom, ShoreTel, and 3Com just to name a few). They can sell you the networking gear and IP PBX phone system equipment you need and, more importantly, set up the system for you exactly the way you want it.

Finding the VARs who do a good job and have the required products and certifications is not an easy proposition. From the yellow pages you can find all of the bigger dealers who can afford to pay the thousands of dollars per year to take out advertisements there, but what about the highly skilled smaller companies? How can you find trusted, reliable VARs that aren't adept at manipulating mass media? The answer is VARSearch, featured exclusively on this web site!

Experience Matters
Telarus, Inc., the parent company of VARNetwork.com, has been in the telecommunication search business since 2002, when we created and patented GeoQuote - the worlds' first and only real-time T1 price comparison shopping tool. Telarus works with some of the largest companies in the world in order to bring the simple, easy-to-understand search tool to life; vendors like AT&T, Level3, Qwest, and XO just to name a few. The amount of research, programming, and negotiation was enormous, but we successfully reached the finish line. Now, we have set our sites on VARSearch, the world's first (free) interactive tool that allows the general public to find VARs in their local areas, sorted by proximity, product type match, past performance, customer feedback, and more.

We Are Experts in Telecommunications
When we launched ShopforT1.com in July 2003 and ShopforEthernet.com in August 2007, our presence was immediately felt. The real-time pricing software which forms the basis for GeoQuote reduced the turn-around time for customers looking for commercial telecommunication quotes from 2 weeks to 2 seconds. Since then, we have continued to pour resources into keeping GeoQuote up-to-date and filling our web site with useful information. Now, over 3,000 customers later, we still continue to strive for excellence in both telecommunications and in VAR search.

Real-time Search is Our Specialty
As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, Telarus has specialized in real-time T1 and gigabit ethernet price and availability research. The experience and knowledge that we have gained from the development of this technology form the foundation for the VAR Search platform. Instead of matching up customers with the best high-speed internet carrier, now we are matching up customers with the best PBX phone system and network equipment dealers - and what you see now is just the beginning.

We Listen to Our Users
The real secret to our success is that we create software designed by people who use it. What you see here is the end result of taking feedback from hundreds of users, VARs, and others. This feedback is invaluable to our program, and the best ideas are added to our web design team's list of features for future versions of the site. We pride ourselves in being humble enough to recognize that we don't know it all. We are expert marketers and programmers who are here to serve our clients. They need it, we do it.

We are Privately Owned
Miraculously, Telarus has been able to build the VAR network without any venture capital of any kind. This means that decisions can be made quickly and site changes can be implemented without any red tape. The lack of big investors means that VAR Network is not beholden to any outside party with its own self interests. VAR Network's mission is to provide a valuable service to its users, not just to put more money into a Board of Directors' pockets.

T1 Internet Connection

Ever used a T1 internet connection? You'll feel the t1 line speed immediately! Upgrading to this level of service is like going from an old used car to a new sports car. While both T1 and DSL connections claim to have a speed of 1.5Mbps, the former actually delivers it's claim. DSL and cable connections are severely oversubscribed and cannot always deliver the bandwidht they project expecially at peak hours. Ready to feel the difference? You may have already if your office has critical applications that use the web. If your office hosts e-mail, webservers or more than 20 people on internet access you most likely already have a dedicated T1 connection. If not, get one fast!!

A T1 internet connection is ideal because of it's reliability. Not only is it not oversubscribed, it also has low latency which mean fewer delays. Latency becomes critical in applications like video on demand, web conferencing, and gaming. While the latter may not seem so important, gamers require some of the best internet connections and are a good source for information on the top internet products available.

If you're ready to move into the fast lane or to put your office on a reliable connection that you should have anyway, get some advise from a broker that deals in T1 line speed services. Brokers don't mark up the price of services. They offer the same price you would get if you did go direct to the company. The advantage of ordering through a broker is that you will get a second channel of customer service. If the company is not performing to expectation you will always be able to go back to your broker who puts a significant volume through the carrier. A broker is much more likely to get the companies attention and have your problem solved. In our opinion, a broker is the only way to go!

Some more info...
  • A T1 line speed is equivalent to 1.554 Mbps (megabits per second).
  • You may also hear the term "bandwidth" or "broadband" associated with a T1 line.

  • Bandwidth is the width of a channel measured in bits, hence the 1.544 Mbps.
  • Broadband is more of a marketing term than a technical term. It really relates to any circuit that is faster than a dial-up connection.
  • T1 line speed can also be offered as a part of a full T1 (fractional T1) if less speed is necessary and also as a multiple of T1's (bonded) if more speed is desired.
  • Fractional T1 lines start at 128 K (kilobits) and increase in increments of 128k. Fractional T1 lines can then increase to 256k, 384k, 512k, and 768k. Because providers still have to run a full T1 line even if you only want a fractional T1 line, the price difference between full T1 lines and fractional T1 lines are marginal. Once you get above 384k, it is almost always better to just get a full T1 line.
For bonded T1 lines, the 1.544 is rounded down to 1.5 Mbps and increase in increments of 1.5 Mbps. Therefore:

1 T1 line = 1.5 Mbps2 T1 lines = 3.0 Mbps3 T1 lines = 4.5 Mbps4 T1 lines = 6.0 Mbps5 T1 lines = 7.5 Mbps6 T1 lines = 9.0 Mbps7 T1 lines = 10.5 Mbps8 T1 lines = 12.0 Mbps

Once you start getting into six or seven bonded T1 lines, it's time to start looking at either a fractional T3 (DS3) or full T3. Much like comparing fractional T1 lines to full t1 lines, once you start adding more bonded T1 lines, the prices start getting closer to the DS3 pricing.

A full DS3 is equal to 28 T1 lines. This gives you a speed of 45 Mbps. Why not use the real-time quotes as above and we get back to you as soon as possible.

T1 Internet Access for Dummies

The T1 internet service has been around for over 40 years but never have there been so many "flavors" available. The number of providers has jumped since deregulation in 1996 from a few dozen to several thousand. As the telecom shakedown that began in 2001 continues many of these companies are trying to stay afloat by capturing as many customers as possible with inexpensive products they claim to be T1. Don't be fooled!

Many of the desperate companies are putting together inferior products they claim are T1 products. Be leery of products with the funny titles like "burstable" and "reach". These products are oversubscribed much like a DSL product. This means the provider puts a singled T1 connection in a CO (Central Office) and sells T1 connections to 3 or 4 customers hoping they don't all use the service at the same time. True T1 access means dedicated access to the internet and you always have access to 1.54Mbps.

Make sure your T1 product is a "clearchannel" product and is not shared with other users. Also be sure you have an SLA or Service Level Agreement from your provider. A SLA will specify the access you will receive and the penalty the service provider will pay if they do not provide such service. If you need help establishing the proper SLA seek the help of a professional if you don't have one in house. It's much better to pay a small fee up front than to enter a long term contract with an inferior carrier. You can also get professional assistance free of charge by simply contacting one of the many T1 brokers on the internet or use the real-time quotes T1 search engine above.

What is T1 line connections?

A T1 line refers to a specific type of copper or fiber optic telephone line that can carry more data than traditional telephone lines. The T-carrier line, as it is sometimes called, was developed by AT&T Bell Labs for North America and Japan.

Twisted copper telephone lines have been the standard for decades, transmitting voice and data via analog signals. Today that standard is slowly being upgraded to fiber optic lines, (lines made of bundled glass fibers), but most T1 lines are still made of twisted copper. The T1 line creates a "pipe" capable of blowing through larger datastreams.

While standard telephone lines can transfer data and voice at a rate of about 30,000 bits per second (30 kbps) using a dial-up modem, a T1 line can transmit 1.544 megabits per second, or can be used to transmit 24 digitized voice channels. Hence it can be used for phone service in a commercial building, for instance, or for data transfer on a network, providing service up to 60 times faster than a traditional modem. Businesses with more than 8 phone lines may save money by getting a dedicated T1 line to loop to the place of business from the local phone company office. This can reduce telecom charges and provide high-speed Internet access at the same time. The business is charged for one T1 line, rather than eight (or more) separate telephone lines. Pricing for the T1 line will depend on the distance of the loop, or the mileage between the telcom and the place of business.

The cost of a T1 line can be expensive, but prices are dropping as demand grows. Internet service providers (ISPs) will lease T1 lines to provide service to their network of clients. Other multiplexed fiber optic lines include T2 and T3 lines, which can transfer up to 44.736 megabits per second. A T3 line is equal to having 28 T1 lines, and is used by larger businesses with higher data and voice demands. More advanced T-standards also exist, though are not in high use.

The European Union uses a different, incompatible type of carrier line, called the E1 and E3. The E2 line is also available but less common.

About ShopForT1

This is our story - a story of overcoming the odds, of having a vision to revolutionize the way people shop for dedicated services, and making it to the finish line. They told us it couldn't be done. They told us our vision of real-time T1 quotes was "way too complicated".

They were right. It was complicated, but not impossible . . .

Welcome to ShopforT1.com - featuring our patent pending GeoQuote tm technology - the web's first and ONLY real-time T1 loop quoting engine. Unlike other companies that have to contact each vendor before presenting you with a price, we developed GeoQuotetm to calculate the price of your T1 line in under 5 seconds! Though the prices you see on our site are not final, our quotes are accurate over 99.9% of the time.

ShopforT1 is owned by Telarus, Inc., a privately held company founded in 2002 by Patrick Oborn and Adam Edwards as they sat on their surf boards in Huntington Beach, California, thinking of a better way to price shop for T1 services. Since that time, the company has grown exponentially and is now headquartered in Draper, Utah. Our technical staff has over 20 years of combined experience programming telecommunications sales web sites for firms such as Cognigen Networks, BILLZilla.com, Siemens AG, and Unisphere Networks.

Our Sales Staff
After you see price quotes in real-time, you'll have full access to our team of experienced sales agents who can take you by the hand and answer any questions you may have. Unlike other consulting firms, our sales staff will help you make an informed decision and stand by you through the entire provisioning and billing process. Our business is helping your business purchase the best solution at the best price. We will not sell you a product that is overpriced or does not fit your situation. Our sales agents are paid a commission on anything you decided to buy, which provides incentive for them to make you happy. Satisfied clients are our business, period.

Top Reasons to Shop With Us

September 7, 2009 - In just the past 12 months we've seen high-speed broadband access enter the realm of business DSL pricing. Your only problem is that carriers aren't very transparent when it comes to their pricing. You literally have to visit each carriers web site (assuming you know which carriers are available in your area), enter your information into their contact forms, and wait for several eager salesman to call you on the phone to pitch you their wares. Or, you can enter your information into a "lead generation" site where your information either gets sold to the highest bidder, or gets blasted out to every broadband provider under the sun so you can, gain, get overwhelmed by salespeople.

We believe there is a better way to shop: in the privacy of your own business office, with actual data that you can rely on, with the proper availability and price points that even come with online order options. So, who are you going to trust? The people who pioneered the worlds' first and only real-time price software (we have the patent to prove it!), or professional "lead generators" who are only interested in earning a referral fee by sending your information to every vendor under the sun?

Up until the year 2003, shopping for T1 lines meant doing the research yourself. Recently, agents who specialize in high speed DS1 (T1) and DS3 (T3) lines have popped up to volunteer to do this research for you, by hand, in less than 7 days. If you are looking to price out bandwidth and routers for your WAN or LAN network in less than a week, you would fine nothing but frustration and eventually high prices. You perform a search in your favorite search engine and you see millions of pages, all of which claim to save you money. In reality what your are seeing are a bunch of internet marketing entrepreneurs who know little about dedicated service at all. They create simple HTML forms that look like they have been programmed by a seventh grade student which captures your information, and either sends it to every vendor in the universe or some in-house former used-car salesman who will sell you whatever will pay him the biggest bonus. The internet is littered with this garbage, confusing customers and leaving a sour taste in their collective mouth. What started out as a search for competitively priced dedicated services has turned into a circus!

Rolling Up Our Sleeves to Provide Information Quickly

In 2002 my partner, Adam Edwards, and I decided to become pioneers in commercial telecom and broadband access. We believed early on that in order to create an online experience that was worthy of your time, we needed to provide information you can use - not your typical "enter your information here and we'll get back to you" elementary page. In order to do this, we invested a full year researching all of the different T1 providers in order to understand their pricing models, many of which were created long before we were born. Based on information we extracted from this research, we invested heavily in complex programming that would allow us to calculate loop prices, or the cost that the local phone companies pass on to the dedicated service providers for access to their network. This cost varies by mile, by market, and by geographic region of the country. Once we rolled up our sleeves and performed extensive testing, we called our product 'GeoQuote' and released it to the public on this very web site in 2003. We are currently in the process of patenting this unique technology.

ShopforT1 is a Name You Can Trust
On November 20, 2008, ShopforT1.com reached $3,000,000 in monthly billing revenue. If you are not familiar with the telecom industry, $3M per month in customer billing is a plateau that less than 1% of all agencies ever achieve. This milestone not only validates our commitment to excellence, but our commitment to you - our prospective customer. We process massive quantities of orders each month, but at the same time pay meticulous detail to every need of each and every one of our clients. That is how we are able to sign up and retain a vast pool of customers that include the United States Government, Defense Contractors, Hospitals (including Walter Reed Army Medical Center, home to our recovering troops), Law Offices, Internet Service Providers, Wireless ISPs, State Universities, Web Hosting Companies, and more. When you talk to a ShopforT1 specialist, you do not receive a sales pitch - you tap into years of experience and expertise. Helping businesses find the right T1 provider at the right price is the ONLY thing we do!

Total Telecom Management - The Winning Formula
In the past year, online shoppers just like you have generated 782,477 unbiased real-time quotes using this web site. Over 600,000 people have discovered that you don't need to wait days to see pricing when you can get the T1 service information you're looking for in just seconds. Throw in the courtesy phone call that you will receive from one of our certified unbiased broadband consultants who can answer your questions, help you design your network, and give you the strengths and weaknesses of each of our providers. Best of all, your ShopforT1 consultant can be your total telecommunication management resource - one person that you can call to find any telecom products you need now and in the future.

We Are the First Company to Provide this Unique Service
Don't be fooled by the imitators! Since we launched this site in 2002, many have attempted to copy our concept, our business model, and even our domain name! It's amazing how in-style real-time shopping has become, especially considering that the reaction we received by our vendors when we divulged our plans to create GeoQuote. Some of the reactions we received include "that can't be done - it's never been done before" and "that is an interesting business model". Now these same vendors have become believers, and our very best partners.

Our Commitment to You
I don't mention these awards to boast, but to demonstrate the industry's recognition of our singular commitment to excellence, our commitment to our agents, and most of all, our commitment to our customers who trust us to find the best T1 products and services on the market. Change has been embraced. Thousands of data DS1 lines (1.5 mbps bidirectional transfer, upload and download, rate), fractional T1 circuits (256 kbps to 1024 kbps), bonded (load balanced) T-1 lines (3 mbps to 12 mbps), DS3 lines (6 mbps to 45 mbps), point to point private lines, Virtual Private Networks (with MPLS), WAN (wide area network) configurations, Point of Sale systems, inbound and outbound call center services, ACD systems, dynamic and channelized integrated T1 lines (both with VoIP and TDM protocols), and Local PRI Circuits have been sold. We also have experience with enterprise products typically employed by larger corporations, namely; gigabit ethernet, OC3, OC12, OC48, OC192, OC256, and OC768 lines delivered over a fiber optic backbone. Many of our carriers even offer free managed cisco routers for multi-year contracts! The way people shop for business class telecommunication services and optical carrier products will never be the same again. GeoQuote is the future, and now the present, of broadband shopping and business voice (local and long distance) services.

Multi-site Networks
Lately we've come across an increasing number of growing business that find themselves needing to communicate securely over the internet. As the number of locations grow, so does the importance of integration and coordination. A Virtual Private Network with MPLS encryption can turn the web into a virtual pipe that connects all of the many locations of an enterprise, enabling sensitive data to flow back and forth without the risk of interception. You can build two types of VPN applications; an intranet VPN and a extranet LAN connection. Both allow users in multiple locations to work in a shared, secure environment. Best of all, a VPN allows you to scale the size of your network quickly and cheaply, compared to the old-school leased T-1 line approach. We have many T-carriers that specialize in VPN and even in double-encrypted VPN, but best of all we have specialists who have extensive experience that you can draw on to create a cost effective solution for your business.

Voice T1 Service
Many web sites you will find during your search for dedicated services will focus exclusively on broadband (Fractional T1 through OCX). Here at ShopforT1 you will find that we have a unique focus on voice t1 services, both local and long distance, including the popular PRI (23 voice channels plus 1 data channel dedicated for the transfer of information, such as Caller ID for example). Our product specialists have many years of experience helping inbound and outbound call centers, customer support centers, dental offices, law offices, and other business who rely heavily on reliable business telephone service. Not only will we save you the most money, we'll figure out a way to do it without sacrificing the integrity of your t1 voice service.

Recently we added dynamic integrated T-carrier service which has been a hugely popular with SMB's throughout the country. These digital trunks allow you to use all 24 channels for high-speed data broadband connectivity in the event that none of your voice channels are in use. The majority of the time you are able to effectively receive a full 1.54 Mbps, not to mention a new feature-rich voice T1 with local PRI and voice access to the outside world. Not only do these dynamic T1s come with more capability, they also come at a fraction of the cost of old analog circuits. Currently, the average price of a dynamic integrated circuit is $450, as opposed to $750 for a standard integrated access line.

Technical Note
A technical quick note about the CSU/DSU, which is made as a separate product or is sometimes part of a T-1 WAN card. The Channel Service Unit - CSU - converts the data from and to the WAN line into a format the router can understand. The DSU provides an interface to the data terminal equipment (DTE) using a standard (EIA/CCITT) interface. The unit likewise provides testing capabilities. If you have any questions or need assistance with the installation of any network hardware of telecom equipment, we can help you find certified T1 technicians in your area using VAR Network.
